Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

GADDo you worry too much? Perhaps all the time, about seemingly every aspect and conceivable circumstance of your life? Generalized Anxiety Disorder is diagnosed when a person worries excessively about aspects of daily life such as health, finances, family and/or work for a duration of over 6 months. It includes chronic worrying most days, difficulty relaxing, sleep disturbances, fatigue, muscle tension, headaches, and stomach aches. Individuals struggling with GAD often feel as though they cannot “turn off their brain.”

Another symptom is difficulty with stopping the worry even when the anxious person “knows” their reaction is more intense than the problem warrants. GAD affects about 5% of the population and is more common in women than in men [1].
